Monitor types
HTTP, keyword, JSON, ping, port, DNS and heartbeat monitors explained, with the settings each one supports.
HTTP(S)
Requests a URL and checks the status code against the accepted range (2xx by default). Records response time and the SSL certificate expiry. Options: method, headers, body, follow redirects, ignore TLS errors, timeout, retries.
Keyword
An HTTP check that also requires a phrase to be present, or absent, in the response body. Case-insensitive.
JSON path (Pro)
An HTTP check that parses the response as JSON and compares a path, for example $.status, with an expected value.
Ping
Sends ICMP echo requests to a host and records the round-trip time.
TCP port
Opens a TCP connection to host:port. Succeeds when the handshake completes.
DNS
Resolves a record type (A, AAAA, MX, TXT, NS, CNAME) and optionally compares the result with an expected value.
Heartbeat (Pro)
Inverts the model: your job calls a unique URL. The monitor goes down when the call is late by more than the grace period.
Common settings
- Interval: 30 s to 24 h (5 min minimum on Free)
- Retries: failed checks before an outage is declared
- Response threshold (Pro): alert when slower than N ms
- Notification channels and resend interval
- Group and tags for organisation
